Howard Stern on Christian Radio?

Yep, it is strange but true. Thankis to Jan S for the tip. From Associated Press:
Some commuters hoping to ease into their day with National Public Radio or Christian broadcasts are hearing shock jock Howard Stern instead.

Their favorite stations aren't broadcasting Stern's show, which has moved to satellite radio provider Sirius. Instead, poorly installed or defective satellite radio units, which act as mini-FM transmitters, are being blamed.

"Usually they're upset, because they don't know what's going on. This isn't what they tuned in to (hear)," Charles W. Loughery, president of the Word FM Radio Network, a group of contemporary Christian stations in eastern Pennsylvania, told The (Baltimore) Sun.

Some of the units use FM signals to broadcast the satellite signal to the car's audio system, using frequencies low on the FM band such as 88.1, often reserved for noncommercial, religious or educational stations. The signal from the satellite system can sometimes override broadcasts from those stations for listeners in nearby cars.

Maybe someday Howard will come to Christ and be nationally syndicated on Christian stations. For now, though, perhaps those startled listeners, finding his crude talk instead of the Bible teacher (or the family expert, author and psychologist) they expect to hear, will pray for Howard. I hope so!

Gas Prices

While Dems are blaming the President for high fuel prices (really, saw this as a "headline" on the news channel just the other day!), others are suggesting that another leader might be able to solve that very problem.

From the phone room, this recent request: Mr. & Mrs. C would like JCD to make a comment on the extremely high gas prices in America. They feel that if anyone can do anything about the gas prices it would be JCD!

Well, there you go. From strengthening marriages and families to lowering gas prices, our Founder has the trust of the American people!

LWO Impact

Quite a story of a life touched by FOF's LWO ministry. Here's a bit of it...

A Catholic Priest went to the Louisville Love Won Out and brought with him some folks he is counseling. One young man came defiantly. However, he contacted the priest later and said that he had a conversion experience at the Love Won Out conference!

Seems that after hearing Mike Haley’s story and Melissa Fryrear’s testimony, the young man was so moved he put his trust in the Lord by the end of the event.

That is wonderful to hear! Be encouraged this day: God is at work through this organization!

(T) Getting The Word Out

From today's R&R "Newsroom," a challenge to broadcasters that we ought to note: Radio Must Embrace The Younger Demographics.

Excerpt:
CBS Radio VP/News Harvey Nagler acknowledged that podcasting was just one of the many ways the network was reaching out to younger listeners. "Radio absolutely has to embrace the younger demographics," he urged. "Radio must also embrace new technology to attract a younger audience."

Nagler stressed the importance for radio to "get as much of your material out there on all of the various platforms." He added, "We don't know how much of it is working, but we know we have to be out there."

Nice to hear the major networks acknowledging that new delivery methods need to be utilized. It is good for the industry as a whole to work podcasts, cell delivery and other technologies. Let's get OUR content out there!

Online Listening

Technology Report: Pandora is a neat "radio" service, and it is customized to your preferences. It is currently a favorite way for me to listen to music online.

From Pandora's website:
Ever since we started the Music Genome Project, our friends would ask: Can you help me discover more music that I'll like?

Those questions often evolved into great conversations. Each friend told us their favorite artists and songs, explored the music we suggested, gave us feedback, and we in turn made new suggestions. Everybody started joking that we were now their personal DJs.

We created Pandora so that we can have that same kind of conversation with you.

How it works: You establish basic parameters as you build one - or a dozen - "radio channels." The technology pays attention to your preferences - musical style, artists, specific songs. If you tell Pandora you don't like a particular artist or song, it will never play them again.

This is like creatikng playlists on an iPod, only the music selection is actually responding to your tastes as you listen. Fascinating!

Check it out, if you can, and tell me what you think.

Won't Give Up My Day Job

My cameo on Odyssey this past weekend can be heard here.

What a heady experience! Although, I didn't even get a mention in the credits.

Ah, well. How many people can claim such fame as being a bit player on the world's most popular kids' audio drama?

Still, I don't think I'll give up my day job...

She Really Works Hard

Proof that Loann does indeed work here. Compliments of Chuck VanLaar.

Editor's Note: This is obviously an inside joke. Or, perhaps it is in response to my previous request for photos of people hard at work. In either case, this shows that we are desparate for content to post on this blog.

Keep that in mind, and send me something, please!

Have a great weekend.

Podcasting Bringing 'Em Back To FOF

From a (former? new?) listener:
I just want to thank you for providing podcasting of the daily FOTF show. My wife and I have supported your ministry for years, but have not been able to listen to the daily show for about 14 years, since moving back to Ohio. What a blessing to finally be able to hear the daily show when my schedule permits!

God bless, and keep fighting the good fight!

ED
Alright! Just a small bit of anecdotal evidence that getting our message out is vitally important. Let's keep at it, through radio, CDs, online streaming, podcasts - and soon, through cell-phone delivery.

Be encouraged. Your work is touching lives!

Miracles: A Story of Healing

From today's "Pulse" report of listener feedback:

* Four constituents mentioned that they were very encouraged by today's program. One gentleman explained that he and his wife have had marital problems for years. Last week their counselor instructed him to read Psalm 103 every day. He didn't read it today, instead he took off his wedding ring, threw it at his wife and told her he wasn't coming back. He turned on the radio while he was working and heard Rev. Miller teaching from Psalm 103. He took this as a message from God to go back home and work things out with his wife.

Thank God for a further miracle beyond what we heard on the program today!

Research Q: Blogs and Podcasts

Out of curiosity, do you read many blogs? Download and/or listen to many podcasts?

If so, tell me, please, what blogs you like? How often you check them out? Why? The podcasts you listen to - and if you do that right from your computer or if you put them onto an MP3 player?

Wondering about our own team, and your usage of technology for info and entertainment.

Send a comment by clicking the link below, and thanks!

Somebody's Watching

Tom Minnery alerted some of us to a new website which is soliciting "dirt" on JCD and FOF employees. In light of this, a reminder that we who claim the name of Christ are always under scrutiny, and that it behooves us all as employees to live model lives - always.
